Pressed Flower Tealight DIY

I started collecting some pretty little flowers to press this spring with the rough idea of applying them to a candle somewhere. After playing with a few ideas, I finally decided to make tealight holders out of them. Now that we're in the middle of this brilliantly colorful fall, I'm thinking it would be fun to make some of these with little bright leaves, too!

1. Supplies: glass tealight or votive cup, small pressed flowers and leaves, gloss Modge Podge, small paintbrush, polyurethane sealer. 2. Paint a layer of Modge Podge onto the outside surface of the glass. 3. Lay pressed flower or leaf over Modge Podge, and paint another layer of Modge Podge over the top to adhere. Repeat steps 2 & 3 until you have the glass covered to your liking. You may need to revisit and touch up certain areas several times to get them to stick and lay flat (those little tips can be especially tricky). Paint the spaces between the leaves/flowers with Modge Podge so the glass is evenly covered. Let dry completely. 4. In a well ventilated area, spray outside of glass with polyurethane sealer according to directions. I used a paper towel to hold the glass while I sprayed so I wouldn't get it all over my hands. This last step is not necessary, but I like to wash out my tealight glasses occasionally to keep them clear of wax and smoke residue, and a polyurethane sealer will put a waterproofing finish on the glass.

I love the interesting shadows they cast! Have fun creating your own.

  1. I pressed flowers saved from my daughter's wedding and have been searching for an interesting craft idea to use them. I came across your blog and really like the tea lights. I plan to try this out and send my daughter a set of the tea lights as well. Thanks for sharing your idea.
